Your edge is your steering wheel. Without it, you would not be able to control your skis/snowboard! Your edge's worst enemy is rust. Rust will eat away at your edge, making it impossible to sharpen to its fullest potential and significantly reduce your ability to turn/brake.
The biggest tip for rust prevention is this: Immediately dry skis/board after a day out on the slopes and try to store it in warm vehicle when driving home. Removing as much moisture as possible after riding is key to preventing rust from forming. While a roof rack is convenient, salt and debris from the road can further accelerate any rust formation. If rust has infected your board, schedule service with TVSB to get them back to looking new!
Safety is imperative when skiing/riding. A quick once-over your gear can be the difference between a great day and a bad one.
Before riding, pull on each binding strap to make sure there are no weak points in the straps.
Check each screw for tightness, especially binding screws. I frequently encounter extremely loose screws when removing bindings, most of them I can remove all 8 with just my fingers!
Place your board upright and press down to bend the board. Check the edges for delamination (edge peeling off from board) and cracks in the base of the board. Also, look at the base of your board for major gouges and core shots, which can introduce water into the core of the board.
Before skiing, perform similar steps as above. When checking bindings, be sure to try and pull bindings away from skis to ensure they are mounted tightly and correctly.
When tightening screws, it is always ideal to torque screws to specified torque values.
When storing skis/board during the summer, dry them as much as you can and apply a coat of wax over the board. This coat of wax should not be scraped off so it can also protect the edges as well.
Reach out to get a summer storage wax! Your equipment will be thoroughly dried and a layer of wax will be applied, but not scraped.
